Zane’s Painful Attempt To Make Peace With His Past
Ever since arriving in the Bay, Zane (Angus McColl) has been carrying the weight of a decision he made as a frightened, troubled teenager. Now, he’s finally ready to try and put it right — but not everyone believes he’s going about it the right way.
With Alf (Ray Meagher) heading off to Merimbula to celebrate Martha’s birthday, he’s leaving Marilyn (Emily Symons) behind — and he’s not exactly thrilled about it. Despite Zane and Marilyn’s year-long pen pal friendship, Alf can’t shake the feeling that there’s still so much they don’t truly know about the former inmate.

Zane, though, is determined to prove he’s changed. The trouble is, he has no idea where to even begin making amends. That’s where Marilyn steps in with a suggestion that will change everything: write to Heidi, the young woman injured during the robbery that landed him behind bars.
The Night That Changed Everything
Zane’s backstory is a heartbreaking one. At just 17, desperate and struggling through a troubled upbringing, he turned to theft to survive. But one night, fear got the better of him — he swung a bat in a moment of panic, accidentally striking a young girl named Heidi. The consequences were severe: a 10-year prison sentence for a split-second decision that would define the rest of his life.
Now, years later, Zane finally agrees to put pen to paper.
Marilyn couldn’t be prouder of him for taking this step. But not everyone in Summer Bay sees it the same way.
Leah’s Fury: “How Would You Feel?”
Leah (Ada Nicodemou) isn’t buying it. Venting to husband Justin (James Stewart), she can’t help but draw painful parallels to her own tragedy — imagining how she’d feel if the person responsible for her son Theo’s death tried to reach out to her.
It’s impossible not to understand where Leah’s anger comes from. Theo was killed in a devastating accident last year after selflessly pushing girlfriend Lacey out of the path of an oncoming car — a car driven by someone with dark ties to Lacey’s mother’s death, someone Theo and Lacey were about to expose. His death left the whole Bay reeling, and clearly, that grief hasn’t gone anywhere.
So is Leah right to be furious? Or does everyone — even someone like Zane — deserve the chance to make things right?
It’s a question with no easy answer, and it’s sure to divide fans right down the middle.
Eden’s Heartbreaking Fight To Come Home
While Zane grapples with his past, Eden (Stephanie Panozzo) is fighting for her future. After a long and gruelling stint in hospital following her aplastic anaemia diagnosis — a condition where the bone marrow stops producing new blood cells — Eden is desperate for just one thing: to go home.
The Fowler siblings have all been tested as potential stem cell donors, but Eden is adamant she doesn’t want anyone making a fuss over her. That includes Levi (Tristan Gorey), who is still waiting on hand surgery after his cliff fall.

“Initially Eden doesn’t want Levi to risk postponing his surgery, which would then postpone his return to work and could potentially affect the long-term functionality of his hand and his ability to be a surgeon,” explains Stephanie Panozzo. “She doesn’t want him to sacrifice the life he has built for a 25 per cent chance of saving her.”
It’s a gut-wrenching example of just how selfless Eden is — even facing her own mortality, her first instinct is to protect everyone else.
A Bittersweet Homecoming
Dr. Amelia (Nicole Da Silva) warns that leaving hospital significantly raises Eden’s risk of infection, and she’ll need to isolate from family and friends if she goes home. Still, against the odds, she gives Eden the green light.
But being home doesn’t bring the relief Eden might have hoped for. Reality sets in fast, and husband Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) can see exactly how much she’s struggling — cut off from the people and the world she loves at the exact moment she needs them most.
Determined to give her some comfort, Cash arranges a distanced family picnic. But it turns out, he might need the moment just as much as she does.
“It’s really hard for Eden to be separated from everyone she loves and the healing nature of the outside world,” says Stephanie. “And Cash doesn’t know how to cope with the diagnosis either.”
“Can I Survive This?” — Eden’s Devastating Question
The picnic brings a rare day of joy, laughter, and cherished memories for the Fowler family. But in a quiet moment away from the group, Eden turns to Levi with a question that stops everything cold: can she actually survive this?
It’s a heartbreaking moment that captures everything about Eden’s storyline right now — the fear beneath the brave face, and the uncertainty that no one in her family can truly shield her from.
Fans will be desperately hoping for good news in the weeks ahead. Summer Bay has already said goodbye to too many beloved characters — surely Eden won’t be next?
