Change is coming to Summer Bay — and not everyone is going to like it.
Nearly four decades in, Home and Away has never been shy about shuffling its cast list, and 2026 has proven to be one of the most turbulent years yet. Beloved faces are packing their bags, dramatic exits are unfolding in real time, and at least one fan-favourite is already booking a flight back. If you’ve fallen behind on who’s coming, who’s going, and why, grab a cuppa — we’re breaking it all down.
Richie Is Coming Back — And Fans Couldn’t Be Happier
Just when viewers thought rookie cop Richie Brezniak (Rocco Forrester-Sach) had left the Bay for good, Channel Seven dropped the news everyone was hoping for: he’s on his way back.
Richie first rolled into Summer Bay back in April as the eager new recruit at Yabbie Creek Police Station. Constable Cash Newman took him under his wing, but Richie’s rookie energy quickly rubbed his senior the wrong way. Off duty, things were looking brighter — Richie sparked up a romance with newly-single Abigail, and for a while, life in the Bay seemed to be going his way.
Then came the moment that changed everything.

During a tense, high-stakes scene, Richie’s inexperience caught up with him in the worst way possible — he accidentally shot his own boss, David, on duty. The fallout was brutal. Richie’s gun licence was revoked, he was sacked from the force, and every job application afterward hit a dead end without a reference to back him up. After a desperate, painful conversation with Cash left him with nothing but hard truths, Richie made the heartbreaking decision to walk away from Summer Bay — and from Abby — in search of a fresh start elsewhere.
But it turns out his story wasn’t finished. Filming records confirm Rocco Forrester-Sach is still very much on set, and Channel Seven has now officially confirmed his return next week. Expect an emotional reunion — and probably a few awkward conversations — when Richie steps back into the Bay he left behind.
A Dramatic Entrance: Dr Amelia Carlisle Arrives
Nicole da Silva — best known to Aussie audiences as Franky Doyle in Wentworth — joined the cast as Dr Amelia Carlisle, a physician from Northern Districts Hospital. Her introduction couldn’t have been more high-stakes: she was the doctor who stepped in to save David’s life in the aftermath of Richie’s fateful mistake.

While Richie’s story wrapped up (for now), a brand-new face burst onto the scene in equally dramatic fashion.
Speaking to WHO about landing the role, Nicole admitted it felt like something of an initiation. “It is a rite of passage for most Aussie actors, I think,” she said. Joining a show with such devoted, long-running fandom was, in her words, “terrifying” — though she was quick to add, “Hopefully everyone plays nice.”
She’s been coy about exactly who Dr Carlisle’s love interest will turn out to be, only teasing that naming the castmate who made her feel most welcome would give the game away. Fans who’ve been watching closely, though, likely already have their suspicions about where that storyline is headed.
Harper’s Heartbreaking Goodbye
Not every exit in Summer Bay comes wrapped in mystery — some are simply devastating.
After weeks of swirling rumours (fuelled by Jessica Redmayne’s absence from filming and news of her new role in Steel Magnolias Australia), it’s now confirmed: Harper Matheson has left the Bay for good, taking her son Archie and sister Dana with her.
The reason is as raw as it gets. Even after Harper found the courage to report her ex-boyfriend Beau for abuse — leading to his arrest — she no longer felt safe staying in Summer Bay. Rather than risk her family’s safety, she chose to disappear and start over somewhere new.
Redmayne opened up about the bittersweet nature of the exit, telling TV Week, “It’s, of course, sad to see Harper go — especially on terms like these — but I’m grateful as Jessica the actor to have experienced the immense challenge. I particularly love telling true stories, and this one was very real and raw.”
Could Harper return once the dust settles? Nothing’s confirmed — but in soapland, doors rarely close forever.
Beau’s Downfall

Beau (Blake Richardson) arrived in the Bay as Harper’s new love interest, and things started sweetly enough — beach dates, blossoming trust, quality time with baby Archie. It didn’t last.
Beau’s troubles escalated fast, landing him behind bars and ultimately pushing Harper to flee Summer Bay entirely to protect her son. Whether Beau resurfaces to cause more chaos once he’s released remains to be seen — but given his track record, we wouldn’t bet against it.
Tane’s Sudden Exit
Currently unfolding on screen is Tane’s abrupt departure, and it’s messy. Framed on drug charges by none other than Harper’s mum, Kerrie, Tane found himself imprisoned before going on the run with help from Brax..
The fallout is already spreading — his business is left in limbo, and his relationship with Jo is in tatters. With Ethan Browne’s exit expected to play out over the coming weeks, fans should brace for one of the season’s messier goodbyes.
Brax and Ricky’s Whirlwind Return
Earlier this year, fan-favourites Brax (Stephen Peacocke) and Ricky (Bonnie Sveen) made a triumphant — if temporary — comeback for a special storyline filmed in Western Australia, done in partnership with Tourism Western Australia.
The pair returned living off-grid on a remote cattle station with their now 10-year-old son, Casey, hiding out after Brax skipped town instead of handing himself in to police following his last dramatic stint in the Bay.

Their arc ran for ten weeks before wrapping on May 15. Reflecting on the reunion, Bonnie Sveen told WHO it was a genuinely emotional experience: “I reunited with old crew friends. I shared a lot of hugs and a lot of chats. It was amazing working with old friends again, and then there were the new faces. The dynamic was really beautiful between the new crew and the cast. Home and Away really is a beautiful place to work.”

What’s Next for Summer Bay?
Between heartbreaking exits, shocking crimes, and long-awaited comebacks, Summer Bay is going through one of its most unpredictable stretches in years. With Richie’s return locked in and Tane’s departure still playing out, there’s clearly plenty more drama on the way.
