Richie Is Back, and Summer Bay Is Already Divided
Some people return to a town quietly. Richie Bresniak is not one of them.
Within hours of his arrival, Summer Bay was buzzing. Everyone knew he was back, and everyone had an opinion. Most of those opinions were not kind.

Lacey Is Furious
The first person to feel the shock was Lacey. When she heard that Richie had come back for Abigail, she could hardly speak. In her eyes, he was the man who shot her father.
She was worried about David too. What if seeing Richie again sent him into a spiral? Why couldn’t Richie just leave them alone?
Abigail stood her ground. She wasn’t going to stop seeing Richie, and she wasn’t going to apologise for it.

A Meeting Nobody Wanted
David had barely slept. Amelia, who had spent the night worrying, could see he was bottling things up. When he said Richie was “not a problem,” she wasn’t fooled. Avoiding the pain isn’t the same as dealing with it.
Then came the twist. David asked Richie to meet him.
Richie walked in with his heart pounding. The former sergeant asked him a few simple questions. Did he have a home? A job? A plan?
The answer to all three was no.
Then David laid down his rules. They would never be friends. They would never share a coffee or even talk about the weather. Richie was to stay away from David and his family as much as he possibly could.
Richie said he understood. He even said he was truly sorry. David wasn’t moved.

Forgiveness Is Not Coming
Afterwards, Richie sat outside, close to giving up. He had no home, no job and no forgiveness. All he wanted was a fresh start with the girl he loved.
Later, David admitted to his daughter that he had nothing more to say to Richie. He couldn’t make Richie leave town, and he had to accept that.
Lacey tried to accept it too. She finally made peace with Abigail. They agreed they would never be double-date friends with Richie, but at least they would not lose each other over a guy.
Marilyn’s Heartbreak
While the bay argued about Richie, another storm was brewing. Marilyn finally learned how long Zane would be locked away. It was eight months for breaching his parole and another seventeen for assaulting a police officer. On top of that, he must serve the rest of his old sentence.
It was far longer than she had hoped.
Marilyn tried to stay strong, but the pain was written all over her face.

A Door Opens
Then, just when Richie thought he had run out of options, Leah offered him a spare room.
Richie couldn’t believe it. He thanked her again and again and promised to be the best houseguest ever. When Abigail heard the news, she was overjoyed.
Justin was not.
He walked in and found Richie’s bag in the hallway. His reaction was instant. Richie had shot their friend David. How could Leah invite him to live under their roof?
Leah wouldn’t back down. To her, Richie was a young man who had made a terrible mistake and needed help. The fight got loud. In the end, Justin said it was fine to help Richie, but not in their home.

Is Grief Behind Leah’s Choice?
Later, Justin shared his fears with a friend. A year has passed since Theo’s death, and Leah’s emotions are all over the place. Was she choosing Richie because she was still grieving the boy she lost?
When Justin said this to Leah, it hurt. She insisted this was who they were. They opened their home to Theo, and they would open it to Richie too.
Richie settled in with a nervous smile. He even bought pizza to thank them. Over dinner, Leah and Justin asked him to keep the arrangement quiet until things calmed down. Even Cash isn’t being told.
It is a secret that will not stay hidden for long.
Marley’s Secret Visit
Meanwhile, Marley made a quiet trip to visit Zane in prison.
Zane seemed to be coping. He told Marley he was working in the library again, and he said he missed Summer Bay. But Marley wasn’t convinced. Who could really be doing well in a place like that?
Then came the shocker. Zane had given Marley a letter for Marilyn.
Marley was torn. Marilyn was only just starting to feel better. What if the letter pulled her back into the darkness? He didn’t want to hurt her, but he couldn’t ignore Zane’s wish either.
John advised Marley to be careful, and Marley decided to wait for Mr Stewart’s guidance. Tony stepped in too, quietly asking Marley to hold the letter until the time was right.

A Small Light for Richie
There was a tiny ray of hope for Richie. John told him the surf club was looking for new lifesavers. The role was voluntary, which meant no pay, but it could be a chance to do something good for the community.
Richie loved the idea. He said he would think about it once he found a paying job.
Marilyn’s Fragile Hope
At the end of the day, Marilyn glowed. She had heard that Zane was doing well, and she began to dream again. Maybe he was regretting his decision. Maybe he would come home someday.
Her husband warned her not to get too far ahead of herself, but she waved him off. “Today was a good day,” she said.
Sadly, the letter sits in a drawer. Marley knows the truth, and he’s waiting for the right moment to tell her.

What Happens When David Finds Out?
Richie now sleeps under the roof of Leah and Justin. David doesn’t know. Cash doesn’t know. Lacey doesn’t know.
How long can a secret like this last in a town as small as Summer Bay?
And what will Zane’s letter say when Marilyn finally opens it? Will it bring her comfort, or break her heart all over again?
One thing is certain. Once the truth comes out, nothing in the bay will be the same.
