Some days in Summer Bay start with sunshine and end with slammed doors. Thursday was one of those days. After the joy of Cash and Eden’s anniversary party, the bill finally came due. Secrets surfaced, tempers flared and a few friendships ended the day on shaky ground.
A sweet morning, and then a bombshell
The day began warmly. Cash and Eden were still glowing from the party. They remembered their honeymoon, joked about the “paper” anniversary present, and Eden insisted she felt better than she had in ages.
But Abby was barely holding it together. After Remi’s warning at the party, she hadn’t slept. “I’m leaning towards telling him,” she admitted. Her secret? She’s back with her ex, Richie. And Richie is the man who shot David and broke her heart.
Abby wanted to wait. Richie did not. “I’ll tell them,” he decided. “I’m the one Cash has a problem with.”
He did, and it went badly. Cash barely spoke. Eden did not hold back. “After everything that you put her through?” she snapped. “How long has this been going on?” When Richie said a few weeks, her answer was ice cold: “Might be time for you to go, Richard.”

“I am sick, but I am not a child”
What hurt Eden most wasn’t the news itself. It was that everyone knew except her. She stormed into Abby’s workplace and demanded answers. “I shouldn’t have to find out from him that you two are together,” she said. When Abby tried to explain that she didn’t want to add stress, Eden shot back with one of the most powerful lines of the week: “Yes, I am sick, but I am not a child.”
Mac became the next target. She had been quietly advising Abby, and Eden turned on her. “You must be loving this. You get to step in and be Abby’s big sister, right? You need to stay in your lane. I am not dead yet.”
Later, Eden showed the pain behind the anger. “The only conversations I’m involved in are the ones about this stupid illness,” she said. “It sucks.”

A crack in Cash and Eden’s perfect bubble
The tension spilled into the marriage too. Eden asked Cash what his first thought was when she gave him the round-the-world tickets. His honest answer was that it was a beautiful gesture, but part of him hoped they were refundable. She walked away to lie down, clearly stung.
Cash, meanwhile, leaned on his online friend Melanie from the support group. When Eden caught him on the phone, she asked calmly if it bothered him that they were talking. “Not at all,” she said. “I’m glad you got someone to talk to.” But the look on her face said she felt left out of her own husband’s thoughts.

The family turns things around
By the afternoon, the family had a plan. “We’ve been treating her with kid gloves,” one of them admitted. “That’s got to stop.” From now on, hard conversations would be shared straight away, and Eden would be invited into everything.
Abby and Mac turned up to apologise. “We’re going to include you in everything,” they promised. “It will be up to you to decide how much you can handle, not us.” Eden softened, and then asked Abby to stay so she could get a big sister’s advice about Richie. It was a small moment, but it was the first time all day the Fowlers felt like a family again.

Richie fights for a second chance
Richie spent the day trying to rebuild his life. He handed out CVs and then asked to join the surf club’s bronze medallion course. John Palmer was reluctant and put him through a long interview. “Half the town hates me,” Richie said honestly. “I need a chance to prove myself.”
Everything fell apart when David walked into the café. Richie fled. But Alf stepped in and told John off for making a keen volunteer jump through hoops. “You’re signing him up to do the course, not giving him the gig,” Alf said, and John finally agreed. Richie got the news in person: there was a place for him.
David finds out, and Justin pays the price
Hanging over everything was the secret Leah and Justin had been keeping. Richie was living in their house, and David, Justin’s close friend and the man Richie shot, didn’t know.
It came out by accident. At a double lunch, David joked about how “nice” it must be to have the house to themselves. He didn’t realise how deeply the line would sting. Justin’s nephew Theo had died a year ago, and he’d lived with them. Justin left quickly, and David felt terrible.
When David went to apologise, he found Richie at the door. Richie couldn’t lie. “I’m living here,” he admitted.
David confronted Justin, and it was honest and painful. “The issue is you and Leah keeping it from me,” he said. “It was gutless.” Justin apologised and promised it was only temporary. David accepted the apology but drew a line: “I won’t be coming anywhere near your house while he’s living there.”

Quieter moments of hope
Not everything on Thursday was heavy. Lacey told her dad that she’s ready to be open to love again, even if she doesn’t expect to love anyone like she loved Theo. David and Amelia also proudly settled on what to call each other: “my Amelia.” And Justin returned from visiting little Archie, still aching from the goodbye.
What’s next in Summer Bay?
Levi’s surgery is the big question. Mac stayed behind to handle the family fallout, but Levi is facing a risky operation, and he hasn’t told Eden. Will she forgive the secret once she finds out?
Then there’s David and Justin. Their friendship has taken a hit, and with Richie still in the house, it won’t heal quickly. Richie’s chance with the surf club is also fragile, with John Palmer still unconvinced. And with Eden’s health in the balance, how long can she keep fighting for her place in every conversation?
One thing is clear: Summer Bay’s secrets never stay buried for long.
