General Hospital spoilers, Willow Tait, Lulu Spencer, GH libel lawsuit, Jack Brennan, Drew Cain
General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal that Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) is pursuing legal action against Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) for libel.
The lawsuit stems from a controversial article Lulu published in The Invader, which alleged that Willow had drugged Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and held him captive.
Lulu’s Article Alleges Jack Brennan Was Drugged Too
The piece also hinted that Jack Brennan (Chris L. McKenna) might have faced similar treatment.
Willow currently appears optimistic about her chances of prevailing in court. However, circumstances could shift dramatically in Lulu’s favor, potentially leading to a decisive courtroom victory.
Recent developments show Lulu manipulating Willow into a conversation under misleading circumstances.
Despite Willow’s clear directive that all contact should occur exclusively through legal representatives, Lulu disregarded this boundary.
The encounter escalated into heated bickering, with both women exchanging hostile remarks and veiled threats toward one another.
As Willow’s lawsuit threatens to backfire, her determination to silence Lulu could create even more problems.
Lulu Is Pushing Willow To Abandon Her Libel Case, But She’s Not Backing Down
Lulu is pushing Willow to abandon her libel case, but Willow stands firm. She’ll only drop it if Lulu publishes a complete retraction.
When Lulu refuses, Willow rejects Lulu’s counteroffer: a modest correction noting that Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) was recovering from surgery, injured, and medicated.
With neither side budging, a courtroom battle looms, and things are bound to get contentious.
In this civil libel dispute, Willow, as the plaintiff, would generally have to prove that Lulu published a false and defamatory statement about her.
The precise legal standard would depend on Willow’s status and the circumstances surrounding the article.
As a congresswoman, Willow could face the demanding actual malice standard for statements concerning her public conduct.
That would require showing that Lulu knew the allegations were false or acted with reckless disregard for whether they were true.
Willow Has Convinced Herself She’s Innocent
If Willow were treated as a private figure, the applicable fault standard could be lower, potentially requiring proof of negligence.
Willow appears to have convinced herself of her own innocence, yet the evidence is stark.
She shot Drew and attempted to end his life. Following that, she administered drugs that triggered a stroke-like condition, leaving him in a locked-in state.
Despite her actions, Willow positions herself as the wronged party.
Drew certainly harmed Willow, but his suffering hardly justified such extreme retaliation.
Because Willow essentially evaded accountability for attempting to murder Drew, she’s developed a dangerous sense of invulnerability.
The Congresswoman’s Courtroom Prospects May Be Stronger Than She Realizes
Meanwhile, the congresswoman’s courtroom prospects may be stronger than she realizes.
If witnesses take the stand, Lulu could gain considerable ground, as numerous people may be able to support her case.
Willow’s legal strategy will probably begin with Sidwell, who can testify that he was injured, heavily medicated, and prone to confusion and false memories during that period.
He even told Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) this and questioned whether Lulu had permission to enter his room.
This could significantly complicate Lulu’s case because she relied on his account, despite his status as a felon and known liar.
As Lulu’s legal battle intensifies, Sidwell’s credibility could become a major issue.
Lulu Obtained Corroborating Evidence Unethically
Though Lulu sought corroborating evidence, she obtained some of it through questionable methods, including misleading Drew to gain access to his medical records.
That’s another issue Willow’s lawyer could exploit.
Additionally, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) can testify that Lulu was explicitly forbidden from interviewing Sidwell, making her unauthorized visit a potential problem.
If Willow’s team produces footage of Lulu disguised as a nurse sneaking into Sidwell’s room, it could damage her credibility with a jury.
Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) has agreed to defend Lulu in the libel case.
Alexis Would Have A Conflict Of Interest
Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) would face a potential conflict of interest because she previously represented Willow in the attempted murder trial.
Drew’s medical condition is central to the libel case, so Alexis’ prior representation could prevent her from representing Lulu.
Alexis knows what Kai Taylor (Jens Austin Astrup) and Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) disclosed about Willow shooting Drew.
Depending on how she obtained that information, she may be able to direct Ric toward potential witnesses without violating attorney-client privilege.
Lulu faces another obstacle: Drew refuses to corroborate her article.
Though Lulu expected his confirmation, Drew won’t cooperate because he wants to protect the Quartermaines, keep attention off Brennan, and prevent police scrutiny of Willow that could implicate him and Ava Jerome (Maura West).
If called to testify, Drew might perjure himself or feign ignorance.
Drew Never Saw His Shooter
Since he was shot in the back, Drew didn’t see his shooter and could claim he has no reason to believe Willow shot him.
However, denying knowledge of the drugging would be another matter.
While Sidwell, Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), and Jack knew Willow was drugging Drew, none appears likely to testify.
Sidwell is denying his statements, Nina is institutionalized, Jack is deceased, and Drew doesn’t want to confess.
This could significantly complicate Lulu’s defense, although she has potential advantages, too.
Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer) could testify about the WSB’s possession of a paralytic drug matching the article’s description.
That could support Sidwell’s original account, although his pain medication doesn’t automatically make his statements truthful.
Kai knew Drew was drugged and that Willow shot him.
If Brennan’s body surfaces during the trial, it could threaten Willow further.
Drowning Suggests An Accident Due To Drugging, But He Could Have Been Assaulted
Drowning could suggest an accident involving drugging, but if blunt-force trauma is found, it could indicate an assault, potentially making Willow a suspect.
Of course, that would require investigators to locate Brennan’s remains and obtain useful forensic evidence.
Willow might have killed Brennan if she lost her temper over Jack’s evidence regarding Michael Corinthos (Rory Gibson) and WSB funding disputes, especially given their recent argument.
Alexis could potentially direct investigators toward Kai and Trina’s knowledge of Willow’s actions, subject to her professional obligations.
Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Michael will likely support Lulu against Willow, with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) possibly assisting.
As Willow faces mounting accusations over her actions, the legal battle could threaten far more than her reputation.
Lulu’s Strongest Asset Is Sidwell’s Recorded Statement
Lulu’s strongest asset remains Sidwell’s recorded statement.
A recording doesn’t automatically validate every allegation, but it does confirm that Lulu accurately captured what Sidwell said rather than inventing his comments.
That distinction could become important when examining what Lulu knew or believed at the time of publication.
Lulu recently told Detective Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett) that Sidwell remained coherent throughout their conversation, prompting Joe to suspect something is amiss.
He’ll likely continue investigating questions surrounding Willow and Brennan.
The case may not reach court, but if it does go to trial, November sweeps could provide the perfect opportunity for a major revelation.
Could Brennan’s body finally be discovered, exposing the secrets Willow has worked so hard to bury?
Editor’s Take
I think Willow is making a huge mistake by suing Lulu. She knows what she did to Drew, yet she’s acting as though everyone else is responsible for ruining her reputation!
Lulu certainly made some questionable decisions while investigating the story, but that doesn’t automatically make her allegations false.
And if Brennan’s body is discovered, Willow could find herself facing questions far more serious than anything in a libel lawsuit.
Do you think Willow will win her case, or will Lulu’s evidence finally expose the truth?
