Something strange is happening in Summer Bay, and it all centers on Justin and his doctor, Amelia.
It starts small. Justin thanks Amelia for organising a counselling session for him, and jokingly offers to buy her a coffee to say thank you. It should be a throwaway moment. Instead, Amelia freezes. She tells him, flatly, that a coffee “wouldn’t be appropriate.” Then she drops the real bombshell — she doesn’t think she should be his doctor anymore.
For Justin, it comes completely out of nowhere. Just moments earlier, things between them felt warm, easy, even a little flirtatious. Now Amelia is pulling away so fast it gives him whiplash. He tries to make sense of it, wondering aloud whether he offended her somehow. Even his own housemate can only offer a shrug — maybe there’s a limit to how involved a doctor is supposed to get with a patient.
But Justin isn’t buying the professional-distance explanation, and neither should we. Doctors refer patients on all the time, sure — but not usually in the space of one conversation, right after being asked out for coffee. The timing is too neat to be a coincidence.
Meanwhile, Amelia isn’t the only one having a rough day of misread signals. Across town, Jo is spiralling after getting a text from her ex, Tane, checking in on her and her dad. She lets herself believe it means something — that maybe he still cares. She’s wrong, and painfully so. When she tries to talk to him about it, he shuts her down hard, making it clear there’s nothing left between them. Jo is left humiliated, cancelling plans and hiding out rather than face anyone.
It’s a rough day all around for the women of the Bay — and it raises a bigger question about whether Justin and Jo are both about to be blindsided by feelings that were never as mutual as they hoped.
Elsewhere, the household drama is heating up too. Remy has quietly moved out of Cash and Eden’s place and in with Tanya — without so much as a face-to-face conversation, leaving only a note behind. Eden is furious and demands he come home immediately, but Remy stands his ground, admitting he’s finally starting to feel comfortable at Tanya’s. Eden insists it’s not a big deal, but her reaction says otherwise, and Cash starts to wonder if there’s more going on with his wife than she’s letting on.
On top of that, Levi is left juggling the entire fundraiser catering solo after Abby suddenly remembers a catering expo she “forgot” was happening in just two days — conveniently, right when the workload was piling up.
And returning to town after weeks away, David is back from a trip to New Zealand with Ashley — revealing he needed the break after his run-in with the police over the Jo situation. His reappearance couldn’t come at a messier time.
So many threads, so many secrets bubbling under the surface. But the one burning question fans will want answered first: why did Amelia really step back from being Justin’s doctor?
