David has been telling his daughters he’s off getting medical checkups. The truth is very different — and it’s only a matter of time before it all comes crashing down.
After finally agreeing to see a trauma counsellor to deal with the fallout of being shot, David has been sneaking around Summer Bay, dodging questions from Jo and Lacey, and leaning on Justin to help cover his tracks. He doesn’t want his girls to worry about him. But the more he lies, the more suspicious they become — and Jo, in particular, isn’t buying a single word of it.
During his sessions, David’s counsellor starts digging deeper than he’s comfortable with. She pushes him to open up about the shooting, about his fear of leaving his daughters without a safety net, and about why he still wears his wedding ring. It’s clear his walls are cracking, even if he won’t admit it out loud.
Meanwhile, there’s another storm brewing. Marilyn has started to suspect that David’s doctor isn’t just caring for him professionally — she thinks there might be real feelings involved. She brings her theory to Alf, convinced the signs are all there: the home visits, the counselling referral, even driving David to his appointments. Alf isn’t so sure, especially given how raw David still is over his late wife. But Marilyn can’t help wondering if a little matchmaking might do him some good… or if it could all go horribly wrong given how fragile his headspace already is.
On top of the personal drama, the Bay is gearing up for a major charity fundraiser. John is under pressure to lock in decent auction prizes, Mac’s gone all out on catering, and everyone from Leah to Marilyn is pitching in — though not without a bit of bickering along the way. It’s shaping up to be a big community event, but with so many secrets swirling behind the scenes, will anyone actually get to enjoy it?
Back home, the tension boils over. Jo and Lacey finally corner David and call him out directly — they know he didn’t get a lift from Justin like he claimed, and they’re done accepting vague answers. David is cornered, and for once, he doesn’t have an easy lie ready to go.
With his daughters closing in, his counsellor pushing him to confront his grief, and Marilyn possibly about to meddle in his love life, David’s carefully guarded world is about to unravel. How much longer can he keep it all together?
