It’s only July, but Home and Away fans already have their first terrifying glimpse of how this year is going to end — and it looks like Summer Bay is bracing for tragedy once again.

Every year, the show builds toward a huge end-of-year cliffhanger before disappearing from screens for its usual summer break. Last year, it was the shocking train derailment that left Sonny paralysed and Jo fighting for her life. The year before that, it was the disturbing discovery of Tim lying unconscious beside Cash. Now, eagle-eyed fans believe they’ve worked out what’s coming this time — and it centres on one of the Bay’s most beloved locals: Roo.

Cast and crew have recently been spotted filming in Orange, a rural town hours west of Sydney, with familiar faces including Leah, Justin, David, Alf and Marilyn all confirmed on set. And it didn’t take long for a curious extra to spill some serious secrets online.

Photos shared in a Home and Away fan Facebook group appear to show a “Missing Person” poster for Ruth “Roo” Stewart, distributed by Yabbie Creek Police. According to the poster, Roo was last seen at Swan Parade in Bayfield, travelling home to Summer Bay in a black Toyota C-HR before vanishing without a trace.

From there, things get even more alarming. Further photos show police and search-and-rescue crews combing a remote bush location, seemingly hunting for Roo. But the most chilling image of all reveals a burnt-out car on set — along with an extra playing a coroner, reportedly seen carrying a body.

Adding to the heartbreak, Leah was spotted on set clutching a bouquet of flowers, watching the search unfold alongside Alf, Marilyn and Justin — a detail that has fans fearing the worst.

So is Roo the one who doesn’t make it out alive? Longtime viewers will remember the last time a missing poster appeared on the show, back in 2023, when Eden was abducted during a camping trip — though she was thankfully found alive. This time, with a body apparently discovered in the wreckage, it seems Summer Bay might not be so lucky.

There’s a glimmer of hope, though: Georgie Parker, who plays Roo, has reportedly still been seen filming recent scenes, hinting she may survive the ordeal. But Georgie is known for taking extended breaks from the show for theatre work — so could this “disappearance” simply be a dramatic excuse to write her off screen for weeks or even months?

While no air date has been locked in, the finale is expected to hit Australian screens in mid-to-late November, continuing the show’s tradition of ending the year on a devastating note before returning in the new year.

One thing is certain — whoever is in that burnt-out car, Summer Bay will never be the same.
