Summer Bay has seen its share of bad decisions over the years. Heartbreak, betrayal, secrets buried so deep they take years to surface. But this week, one of its newest favourites is about to make a choice that could cost him everything he’s worked so hard to rebuild.

Sonny is about to be offered something dangerous. And the most terrifying part? He just might say yes.

When Sonny first arrived in Summer Bay, nobody could have predicted what was coming. The spinal injury he suffered in the 2025 season finale didn’t just take away his ability to walk — it threatened to take away everything he was. His independence. His identity. His future with Dana.

He broke up with her, convinced he’d only be a burden. He moved into a rehabilitation facility, pushing everyone away while quietly falling apart.

But Sonny is not the kind of man who stays down for long.

After Eden organised a day trip from the rehab centre to try and lift his spirits, Sonny ended up staying in Summer Bay — pulled back in by his loyalty to Remi after learning about the brain tumour. Then came the moment that changed everything: while trying to help a collapsed Remi in the back garden, Sonny felt movement in his leg.

Hope. Real, unmistakable hope.

Referred to the clinic of Dr Swan — the same renowned neurosurgeon who operated on Remi — Sonny began to improve. Then came the day he surprised Dana by getting out of his wheelchair and standing on his own two feet.

It should have been the beginning of a steady, careful recovery.

Instead, it lit a fire in him that nobody can seem to put out.

Sonny has never been good at slow. And the closer he gets to feeling like himself again, the more impatient he becomes with everyone trying to protect him.

He’s been pushing himself recklessly at Summer Bay Fit — the gym recently reopened by John, Mali and Lacey while Tane recovers from his own injuries. Where most people would ease in gently, Sonny has been going harder than ever, ignoring every warning, brushing off every concern.

Last week, he crossed a line — arriving early one morning to find the gym still locked, he broke in rather than wait.

It could not have been worse timing. That same morning, the surf club garage had been broken into, with tools and equipment stolen as part of a crime wave sweeping the bay. Suddenly, Sonny found himself an unlikely suspect.

Thankfully, the evidence — or lack of it — cleared him. As Sonny pointed out to David, he could barely walk, let alone carry off a generator.

But when Dana found out about the break-in, the tension between them exploded. Sonny reassured her he was only “questioned,” not arrested. He promised it wouldn’t happen again.

Actor Ryan Bown recently opened up about his character’s state of mind to Australian magazine TV Week. “He knows in his heart that he’s taken things too far, but he feels like he’s in too deep,” Ryan explained. “Sonny lies to Dana about the gym as she thinks he’s pushing himself too hard too quickly. But Sonny is so determined to get back to the old Sonny that he ignores her advice and Tane’s training program.”

Then Tane stepped in.

Having seen enough, Tane sat Sonny down and delivered a firm ultimatum — from now on, his workouts are cut to one supervised hour per day. No exceptions.

Sonny was furious. He’s not trying to hurt himself. He’s just trying to get his life back. Why can’t anyone understand that?

And that’s exactly where new arrival Beau walks in.

Beau — described as a “performance enthusiast” — watches Tane deliver his ultimatum and pulls Sonny aside with a very different kind of offer. He tells Sonny he doesn’t need to be in the gym around the clock to fast-track his recovery. He just needs to be training with the right supplements.

Sonny asks if he means vitamins.

Beau laughs.

“No mate, no. In order to reach your goals, you’re gonna need something just a little bit stronger than vitamins.”

The implication is clear. Beau isn’t talking about protein shakes.

Sonny is already obsessed, already reckless, already convinced that everyone trying to slow him down is the enemy. And now someone is standing in front of him offering a shortcut.

Will he take it? And if he does — what will it cost him?
