“The world is not as bright without you around.”
Home and Away star Sarah Roberts has opened up about the tragic loss of her brother a few years ago, sharing a poignant tribute. The Willow Harris actor’s sibling Karl sadly passed away in 2019 due to brain cancer.
Taking to Instagram earlier this week, Sarah posted a moving video, revealing it would’ve been Karl’s 52nd birthday this month.
“52 years ago, my mum was 19… only 19… and she gave birth to my brother,” she told her followers. “I know in a way this isn’t the true definition of a soulmate, but I feel like my brother was my soulmate… he’s gone now, he passed away seven years ago.”
Sarah said it was “a lot for our family to go through this month” with “lots of emotions”, before reflecting on the nature of grief.
“When you lose someone, you strap yourself in on the rollercoaster to feel all the emotions, but what I’ve noticed upon seven years of reflecting is that I just feel an immense amount of gratitude today,” she continued.
“I’m just so grateful that my mum gave birth to my brother and raised such a good man. I can’t describe him in words. Words don’t do him justice. He was fiercely intelligent, super protective, really funny in a quirky way, like a dad joke kind of way, which I’ve also kind of inherited.”
The star concluded by sharing that she was “so grateful” to have known her brother, and would choose to go through what happened again just to know him.
“I would choose that 100 billion trillion times to just have a brother like Karl,” she said. “So I want to celebrate him today. Man, the world is not as bright without you around, but I can still feel you here on another frequency. Happy birthday.”

Sarah has since received a number of supportive comments, with fellow Home and Away star Debra Lawrance writing: “Much love dear one.”
“Love to you dear Sarah and fam,” added Xena: Warrior Princess‘s Danielle Cormack, while Dannii Minogue shared a series of heart and raised hands emojis.
