EastEnders promised a week that would shake Walford to its core. The Night That Changes Everything has certainly delivered drama, heartbreak, and shock after shock. But right now, one question is louder than all the storylines combined.
Where on earth is Oscar?
The Promo That Started It All
When the BBC released the promotional images for this special week of episodes, fans were excited. The picture for Max’s episode was bold and eye-catching — Max at the centre, surrounded by Cindy, Lauren, and Oscar. A family. A story. A promise.
Viewers tuned in expecting all four of them to be part of the drama.
Three of them showed up.
Oscar didn’t.
And fans have not let it go.
A Week of Big Stories — But One Glaring Gap
To be fair, The Night That Changes Everything has been packed. Each episode has peeled back another layer of one devastating night — the night of Vicki and Ross’s wedding.
Monday belonged to Denise. The moment she crumbled in Yolande’s arms after learning she had cancer was one of the most quietly devastating scenes EastEnders has aired in years.
Tuesday shifted focus to Ian and Chelsea. The fallout from Ian’s drink-driving horror — little Jordan Fox left on the pavement, a broken spine, the threat of brain damage — had viewers gripped and heartbroken in equal measure.
Wednesday was billed as Max’s episode. And yes, Max delivered. His drunken proposal to Cindy — complete with someone else’s ring he found at the wedding — was equal parts cringeworthy and compelling. Cindy wasn’t impressed. Vicki was furious at being upstaged on her own wedding day. And when Max sloped off with Priya and the two ended up sleeping together, the drama spoke for itself.
But through all of it? Not a single frame of Oscar.

Fans Are Not Happy
The complaints started pouring in almost immediately — on Reddit, on X, across every EastEnders fan community online.
One Reddit user didn’t hold back: “Why were Lauren and Oscar so featured in the promos when none of them did anything today? Lauren had her plot with Mark and Peter yesterday. But Oscar has done nothing so far. How is this happening?”
Another fan agreed, and had a theory of their own: “I wonder because they know Oscar and Lauren are popular with the viewers, they used the two of them deliberately as a marketing ploy to get people to watch. It doesn’t make sense otherwise.”
Over on X, the frustration was just as sharp: “So Lauren and Oscar appear in Max’s promo for today’s episode, but they literally don’t appear. What was the point of Oscar being in this promo when he literally hasn’t appeared in any of this week’s episodes?”
It’s a fair point. Lauren at least got a moment — her near-kiss with Mark gave viewers something to talk about. But Oscar? He has been completely invisible. Promoted heavily, delivered nothing. And fans feel misled.
Was It a Marketing Ploy?
The theory gaining the most traction is a simple one — the BBC knew that Oscar and Lauren are two of the most popular characters with current viewers. Putting them front and centre in the promotional material was a calculated move to pull in an audience, regardless of whether they actually featured in the story.
If that’s true, it worked. Viewers tuned in. But now they feel cheated.
And with only one special episode still to air — tomorrow’s instalment focusing on George — the window for Oscar to finally appear is rapidly closing.
Will the writers squeeze him in before the curtain falls on The Night That Changes Everything? Or will he remain the most talked-about character of the week for all the wrong reasons?
One Episode Left. One Last Chance.

Tomorrow belongs to George. His story has been building all week, and whatever is coming is clearly going to be big. But somewhere in the background, EastEnders fans will be watching with one eye on the screen and one question on their lips.
Is Oscar finally going to show up?
Because if this week ends and Oscar has appeared in every promo but not a single scene, the BBC is going to have a lot of explaining to do. And Walford’s most mysteriously absent character will have become the unlikely talking point of one of EastEnders’ most dramatic weeks in recent memory.
The night isn’t over yet. But for Oscar — the clock is ticking.
